One month, one painting : Summer in Central Otago by New Zealand artist Rita Angus (video)

Summer is here! Rita Angus ( 1908 – 1970) is regarded as one of the leading figures in twentieth-century New Zealand art. She worked primarily in oil and watercolour, and became known for her portraits and landscapes. Angus has captured the vastness and variety of the Otago landscape, as well as the shifting effects of summer heat, light, and wind.

One month, one painting : Labour Day, « Detroit Industry Murals », USA

Hannah, our American teaching assistant, is from Detroit 😉 ! In November, our ELC students learned about the history of Detroit and Hannah had them work on « Detroit Industry Murals ». These murals (1932–1933) are a series of frescoes by the Mexican artist Diego Rivera, consisting of twenty-seven panels depicting industry at the Ford Motor Company and in Detroit.

One month, one painting : Dublin’s Liffey swim by Jack B. Yeats, Ireland

This expressionist painting from 1923 captures the excited crowd attending The Liffey Swim – an annual swimming event that continues in Dublin to this very day.
