Video – What do the Olympic rings represent?
The Olympic Rings are one of the most famous symbols in the world. There are five of them, and they are blue, yellow, black, green, and red. So, what do these rings mean?
Each of the five rings represents
one of the five continents that participate in the Olympics.
These continents are Africa, the Americas (North and South America are considered as one), Asia, Europe, and Oceania (which includes Australia and the countries of the Pacific Islands).
The five rings are a symbol of unity: The rings are interlocked with each other, which means they are connected. This symbolizes the unity and friendship among all the nations of the world during the Olympic Games.
The colors of the rings along with the white background of the Olympic flag represent the colors of the flags of all the countries that were part of the Olympic movement when the symbol was created in 1913. That means at least one of those colors appeared on the flag of each country.
Remember, the Olympics are not just about winning medals.
They are also about bringing different countries together
to celebrate sports and friendship,
and the Olympic Rings are a symbol of that spirit!
